IQNA – A group of memorizers from Nigeria are taking a Quranic course the Imam al-Tayeb Holy Quran Memorization and Tajweed School in Egypt.

A total of 32 boys and girls from Nigeria’s Rawzat al-Quran Memorization Center are taking the course, Al-Jumhuriya website reported.

It began at the Al-Azhar school on February 1 and will run through Tuesday, February 6.

Nigeria is a country in West Africa. About 50 percent of the country’s population is estimated to be Muslim, while 40 percent are Christians and 10 adhere to local religions.

Nahla al-Suaidi, head of Al-Azhar’s Center for Development of Foreign Students’ Education, said the intensive course is aimed at enhancing the memorizers’ skills in Tajweed and recitation as well as contemplation of the Holy Book.

The advisor to Al-Azhar’s president also said that the Imam al-Tayeb Holy Quran Memorization and Tajweed School seeks to serve the Holy Book and promote moderate Islamic values.

The educational courses offered at the school are based on latest developments in different science, the official added.
